A short movie from the archives of Nga Taonga, (20 minutes) produced by Zee Films NZ and inspired by the Italian fishing community of Mākara on Wellington’s south coast in 1946. Plot: A group of villagers find a man drowned in the surf. They must decide how to dispose of the body. Memories of war and loss come to the fore as a wedge is driven between the men and women of the settlement.


In the cast also Mirella Forti Hall, who came to New Zealand as a war bride. Mirella was also an active member and president of the Dante Alighieri Society of Auckland for many years, and on 4th June 2003 she received the Order of New Zealand Merit M.N.Z.M. for services to the Italian community.
