The Cinema Italiano Festival, now Studio Italian Cinema Italiano Festival, was established in 2015 by Paolo Rotondo and Renee Mark. Renee is Ngati Tahu, originally trained as a lawyer Renee has been managing Enterprises in the business sector and in the Arts for years. Renee headed Te Paepae Ataata (The Maori film Commission) for 7 years. Paolo was born in Napoli, he is a writer, director, producer and actor. Working in both film, television and theatre Paolo has penned major Theatre plays and directed award winning feature films. Renee and Paolo created the Cinema Italiano Festival to bring Italian Cinema to audiences in Aotearoa, to create a stylish, welcoming boutique film festival that celebrates Italian culture and enriches our New Zealand culture. Since 2019 the naming sponsor has been Studio Italia.
