Available from the National Library or New Zealand, this article by Paul Elenio recalls the incarceration of Italians on Somes Island for up to four years in the early 1940s under wartime emergency regulations. Reports that a memorial to their detention as aliens has been placed by the Italian community on a high point of the island.

A cutting of this article was offered to the Società Dante Alighieri Auckland to photograph for the archive. You can find it here.
