Transcript of the speech Elizabeth Peek gave as part of the Week of Italian Language in the World in 2007 which was celebrated at Club Garibaldi. Elizabeth Peek was Agostino Perano's great-granddaughter, a member of Club Garibaldi and also President of the Circolo Italiano di Wellington. Agostino Perano was born in Quezzi, Genoa, in 1850 and left Italy at age 14. He arrived in New Zealand 10 years later, after living in the USA, and worked as a fisherman. Peeks talks also about her great uncle Joseph August (Joe) Perano and the family whaling enterprise. The transcript has been published on the Facebook page of Island Bay Little Italy. Elizabeth sadly passed away on 18 November 2017, the year before the Perano family reunion.
