During the 2018 edition of the Festival Italiano Auckland, Italian President Sergio Mattarella awarded Auckland resident and writer Alessandra Zecchini the title of Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Stella d’Italia for services to Italian culture and foreign relations.
His Excellency Fabrizio Marcelli, Italian Ambassador to New Zealand, presented the honour which translates as Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy and is bestowed on Italians and foreigners who have promoted relations between Italy and other countries. It also reflects on the promotion of Italian culture in the world.
Born in Milan and raised in the province of Modena, Alessandra Zecchini immigrated to New Zealand in 1997 with her Kiwi husband. They settled in Oratia, Auckland, raising two children bilingually and founding publishing company Oratia Media.
The article also talks about the Italian community in Auckland and some of the many groups and activities Zecchini is involved with: the ComItEs Wellington (Italian Committee for Italians Abroad) and the Society Dante Alighieri di Auckland, and the Italian radio Ondazzurra.
A press release of the occasion was previously published on Scoop and articles in Italian were published by Agenzia Internazionale Stampa Estera (AISE), Bellunesi nel Mondo, Il Corriere delle Alpi, Gazzetta di Modena and other publications.
