Part of the successful TVNZ series Here to Stay (2009). The Italians episode is presented by Paolo Rotondo who tells the stories of Italian fishermen, soldiers and farmers. The documentary explores what's it like to be an Italian in New Zealand and what happens to one's "italianness" when one moves to another country. Recent immigrants from a variety of backgrounds are interviewed, including the descendants of Nicola Sciascia and of Nelson's tomato growers, and some more recent arrivals like writer Alessandra Zecchini and chef Maria Pia De Razza. Rotondo also tells his own experience of moving from Naples to New Zealand. A written interview with Paolo, and outline of the episode, can be found here. The video can be viewed at the Nga Taonga medialibrary on weekday afternoons from noon to 4pm, reference F112433.
