A short biography of Geraldo Guiseppe Perotti (1830-1911)in the website West Coast New Zealand History (West Coast Recollect). Perotti was a native of Barge in Piedmont. He was a businessman (iron foundry, goldmining, sawmilling, hotels and the Greymouth to Kumara Tramway) and owned considerable land in the area, including Perotti House, which became the Italian Consulate. Perotti was Italian Consul for 37 years. Perotti Park and the surrounding streets are named after members of his family.
Perotti served on the Borough Council and took a prominent part in the life of the community for 47 years. When he died in October 1911, aged 81, his obituary described him as “one of Greymouth’s oldest and most respected residents” and “one of the West Coast’s most valuable men.”
On the website there is also a photo Geraldo Giuseppe Perotti, and of Perotti House.
